Disability affects millions of people in the world today, with numbers that are only growing.
Today we are here for our loved ones living with disabilities, but tomorrow we may not be. There is a glaring need for the Muslim community to become better equipped for the people that are such a valuable part of our society. It was this absence of support in the Muslim community that led our founders Dr Omar Suleiman and Sr. Joohi Tahir to start MUHSEN (Read more about our founders in Who We Are).
Our Mission: Muslim communities where individuals with disabilities and their families are welcomed, supported, and included across the span of their lifetime.
Our Vision: Muhsen is a nonprofit organization serving families and individuals with intellectual, mental, and physical disabilities. Muhsen works to establish inclusive and accessible American Muslim communities for individuals with disabilities and their families. We do this through engaging in community advocacy and education (Awareness) and implementing and encouraging programs and services (Accommodation), leading ultimately to inclusive and welcoming communities (Acceptance).

MUHSEN Masjid Certification is unique to Muhsen as we are the only organization in North America who certifies masjids by ensuring they meet all needs and criteria for disabilities.

MUHSEN Service-Certification is a FREE program built to help qualify non-masjid organizations and services across North America in becoming properly equipped to meet the needs of those in our communities living with disabilities.

We understand that when one family member lives with a disability, the entire family lives with it. We provide short-term care visits for primary caregivers to take a break from their daily responsibilities.

We offer educational experiences using exclusive curriculum such as modules for teaching wudu and salah, stories of the prophets adapted to learning level, and specialized arts and crafts materials. We strive to help students with disabilities achieve success in growing their Deen.

MUHSEN prioritizes a support system to safeguard the mental health of individuals and families with disabilities, as well as caregivers. Moderated by licensed social workers or therapists, these groups provide a safe and understanding environment where people can come together and find meaningful support.

MUHSEN Good Day is MUHSEN’s new adult day program designed for young adults with disabilities between ages 15–30 to pursue fulfilling activities that they find interesting and helpful for daily living, aiming to encourage self esteem and achieve personal success.

MUHSEN is fully present at ICNA, ISNA, and MAS each year and we offer a range of services for attendees with disabilities including ushering, ASL interpretation, and wheelchair assistance.

MUHSEN facilitates an Umrah partnered with Dar El Salam for people with disabilities. We offer one-on-one assistance, sign language interpretation, special needs child care, wheelchair/ushering aid, and customized visual resources.
